All the bungalows along Kings Avenue built around 1929 were allocated to Senior Dockyard Staff. The heads of the Dockyard Departments - Chief Mechanical Engineer, Chief Electrical Engineer, Chief Constructor, The Superintendent Naval Stores Officer etc. These officers were usually civilian but No 118 Kings Avenue was allocated to The Captain of the Singapore Royal Naval Dockyard a serving Naval Officer.

 Singapore Naval Base - Accommodation. No 1 Singles Mess A Blk346 viewsNaval Base Accommodation. No 1 Mess 'A' Block on Beaulieu Road in 1957. Built by the main contractor Sir John Jackson in the early 1920's to house his staff. Built conveniently close to Beaulieu House a planters property requisitioned to be used by Navy Dept staff supervising the contract. On completion of the build of the Naval Base the block was converted to a mess for single civilian men posted from the UK to work at the Dockyard. Beaulieu House became the Chief of Staffs House.
