Pulau Tioman

Thanks to Ken Wildon for sending in these pages and photos, he writes -

Back in the summer of 67 a group of us from St John's went on a Geography field trip to the Island of Tioman, about 25 miles off Mersing on the east coast of Malaysia. Most of us had just finished our A levels and were making the most of our new found freedom, while just a few were there to further their education.

Tioman was known at the time as the island used for location filming for the 1950's musical South Pacific.

While we were there we decided we would climb the island's highest peak, Mount Kajang. The story of that ill-fated expedition was subsequently published in Summit Magazine and duly forgotten. Confined only to dim and distant memories.

Until earlier this year! Following the 5th Chandos event in March Marilyn Waldron recalled seeing the article fairly recently. Louise(?) Reyniers (her maiden name eludes me but I'm sure Marilyn will remind me!) still had the magazine!

Our hope is that we can recreate this picture. We know where George is but we've yet to find Keith Gordon. Can anyone help?

No, Angela didn't come with us but we have no snaps of him on Tioman as it was HIS camera! And as all other pics of Alan seem to include Angela we didn't have much choice!

Looks so much nicer in colour doesn't it?
